The British Infantry Pattern 1897 Sword made by WKC Solingen is a historically significant weapon used by the Canadian Army. WKC Solingen is a renowned German sword manufacturer that produces swords for various countries, including Britain and Canada.


The blade of this sword is typically around 32.5 inches long, featuring a single-edge and a spear point tip. The overall design is influenced by both cutting and thrusting, making it suitable for a range of combat situations. The blade is usually made of high carbon or stainless steel, providing durability and strength.


The hilt of the sword consists of a solid grip covered in rayskin, which is then tightly wound with twisted brass wire. It also features a knuckle bow design to protect the user's hand. The pommel,, nut and ferrule are made of brass, the guard is embossed with the king´s cypher, providing visual appeal and additional protection.

Canadian Infantry and Royal Marines Corps - Officers sword (1897 pattern) in accordance with the Canadian MOD specifications.

Art. No. C1461-MOD.

Note: Traditionally, Infantry swords are being sold without scabbard as there is a choice of different types of scabbards. The options are being shown on the right hand side once the sword is chosen.

In November 2005, WKC purchased the majority of the Wilkinson Sword Ltd. production in London. Amongst machines, equipment and parts, we also acquired the tools for the British Infantry and Corps & Royal Marines Officers Sword which Wilkinson delivered exclusively to the MOD

Product specification:

Guard:

  • Pierced guard bearing the Royal cipher CIIIR, hand-polished.
  • The grip-backing is made of solid brass and fixed to the blade tongue with a ball screw

Finish: Nickelplated

Grip:

  • Covered with genuine shark skin, wrapped with 3 silver wires.

Blade:

A forged stainless steel blade.
Carbon Steel has to be maintained with oil. Stainless steel has the longest lifetime.

The blade is hardened and tempered to ca. 48-52° HRC Rockwell.

Dimensions of the blade: ca. 825 mm x 6.5 x 25 mm.

Etching pattern:

  • British Infantry and Corps & Royal Marines Officers with CIIIR Cypher, Canadian Coat of Arms

The acid-etch is so deep, that one can feel it with a fingernail.
